Installation view, 'reboot' and 'reboot drawings', Exhibition of Works 2019.
The design for this ongoing series stems from 40,000 year old scratchings on a piece of carved stone found in the Blombos cave in South Africa. It may be one of the earliest known pieces of art or it may be a form of tallying.
Using this as a starting point, I want to explore the feasibility of engaging afresh with such ancient mark-making. These works relate to starting “from scratch” while knowing full well that such a thing is impossible.
